AVAX One Targets Alberta for AI Data Centre Expansion

Newsdesk, April 21, 2026

AVAX One Technology is advancing its push into digital infrastructure, signing a Letter of Intent to develop a 10-megawatt AI and high-performance computing (HPC) data centre site in Alberta—marking a significant step in the company’s evolution beyond digital assets into physical compute infrastructure.

The Nasdaq-listed firm confirmed it is working with Alberta-based BlueFlare Energy Solutions to develop “powered land” capable of supporting a Tier 3 AI/HPC facility near Calgary, with a definitive agreement expected within 30 days.

The project represents AVAX One’s formal entry into the data centre sector, positioning the company to capitalize on surging demand for AI and compute capacity while addressing one of the industry’s biggest constraints: access to power.

At the core of the development is a 10 MW site designed to support high-density workloads, with at least 7 MW allocated to mission-critical operations. The facility is targeting Uptime Institute Tier 3 standards, incorporating redundant power systems, battery energy storage, and diesel backup to ensure high availability.

Unlike traditional grid-reliant facilities, the project will be powered primarily by on-site natural gas generation, supplemented by grid connectivity where viable. This “behind-the-meter” approach is increasingly gaining traction in energy-constrained markets, offering operators more predictable costs and faster deployment timelines.

AVAX One expects the development to cost between $30 million and $35 million, with milestone-based payments tied to key phases including permitting, construction, and commissioning. The company is targeting delivery of client-ready infrastructure by the first quarter of 2027.

Once operational, the site is expected to be leased to an edge compute customer under a long-term agreement, creating recurring infrastructure revenue tied to AI and HPC workloads.

The Alberta location is central to the strategy. The province’s combination of low-cost natural gas, existing energy infrastructure, and relatively streamlined permitting environment has made it an emerging hub for energy-intensive data centre development.

The announcement builds on AVAX One’s earlier plans to develop a 10 MW micro-grid data centre in the province, reflecting a broader strategy that combines digital asset operations with scalable compute infrastructure.

As demand for AI infrastructure accelerates globally, the company is betting that integrating energy generation with modular data centre design will provide a competitive edge—particularly in regions where grid capacity is limited and timelines for new connections remain uncertain.
